One of the most important industrial cities in Germany, Bremen lies on the banks of the Wesser River, and is home to more than half a million people. Bremen has been officially established since 788, and there are many sights to see in the city from throughout the history of Bremen including several impressive buildings from various eras.

Among the main attractions for visitors to Bremen are the impressive town hall and the medieval Market Square where there is an annual Christmas Market, and also a fair during the Freimarkt every October. The St Petri Cathedral was built in the 13th century, and has a number of notable sculptures inside including one of Moses.

Although certainly not the main reason for visiting Bremen, the Beck's Beer brewery is certainly one of the best. Having been in operation since 1842, the Beck's brewery is a highlight of any visit to Bremen, and most tourists visiting the city will make the effort to visit. On a tour of the facility, you can expect to be shown the intricacies of making a premium beer, prior to being invited to sample a few glasses.

When you leave Bremen in order to explore the surrounding area, a popular place to visit is the town of Bremerhaven on the coast. In many ways the counterpart to Bremen, this historic port city shares many characteristics, and is the gateway to a large area of windswept North Sea Coastline.
