One of the most important cities in the former East Germany, Leipzig is a pretty city with plenty of attractions on offer, and a lovely location in the centre of the beautiful Saxony wine making region. People travel to Leipzig from all over the world due to its reputation for friendliness and warmth, and the city certainly provides visitors with an excellent welcome on arrival.
With attractions including a number of superb museums and a gallery of modern art on offer, as well as the chance to spend time touring the countryside and pick up a few bottles of the local wine as you explore.
Leipzig has a reputation for being a fairly radical place to visit a city not constrained by the conventions of populism, and as such Leipzig has been an important political city in recent years - most notably in 1989, when it was arguably the birthplace of the peaceful revolution that saw the end of East Germany and the ultimate fall of the Berlin Wall.
A notable university town, Leipzig has a large student population that in turn creates an excellent nightlife in the city - particularly on the weekend.
